A special award was also earned by Abby Bertics. She was Wind N Sea’s first swimmer to be named to the San Diego-Imperial Zone Championship team. Swimmers can only qualify for Zones with long course meter swims. Swimmers then apply for the team. Swimmers with 5 cuts automatically qualify. Abby qualified in 6 events. At the meet, she swam 6 individual events and all of the 10 and under relays. She made finals (top 8) in 3 of her events and got to swim those events again. She outswam all competition in her 50 fly and won the event in what used to be a USA Swimming National Reportable time (USA Swimming no longer runs that program for 10 and unders).
